The Cucci Cabinet is one of three cabinets fashioned by Italian artist Domenico Cucci when under the French King Louis XIV earned over went under the hammer recently at Christie’s. The other two cabinets are part of the Duke of Northumberland’s collection at Alnwick Castle. All the three are reportedly dated around the period of 1665 to 1675.
Similarly, the famous Badminton Chest (or Badminton Cabinet) commissioned by Henry Somerset-Scudamore, 3rd Duke of Beaufort, is an ornate set of drawers made in Florence. The chest was sold in 2004 to Hans-Adam II, Prince of Liechtenstein for over $35 million, making it the most expensive furniture in the world. It is on display in the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna, Austria.
