Tommy Hilfiger is planning to open a new Tokyo flagship on the corner of Omotesando Avenue and Meiji Dori, where a landmark Gap store used to make its home. The three-level 10,946-square-foot store, which will be the brand’s largest outpost in Asia, is slated to open in March 2012. It will share a building with the flagships of two other international fashion brands that have yet to be announced. The building will definitely be an eye-catching development. Designed by Tokyo-based architectural firm Hiroshi Nakamura & Nap Co., Ltd., it will feature a roof-top terrace dotted with zelkova trees. Previous projects by the firm include the Lanvin boutique in Tokyo’s Ginza district and the interior of Nike’s Tokyo design office.
"I am excited to open a flagship store in Japan on Omotesando, one of the most renowned shopping locations in the world," said Hilfiger. "The Harajuku store will capture the global classic American cool essence of the brand, while also embracing Japanese heritage."
