DAPHNE GUINNESS is "overwhelmed" by the result of her clothes auction – and that Lady Gaga was bidding – last night. The sale, held at Christie’s in London and featuring lots including Alexander McQueen dresses and one-off photographs, raised almost half a million pounds for the Isabella Blow Foundation.

"And, thank you my friend Lady Gaga," Daphne Tweeted today. "You are a real person. and a great one! Your proof of friendship, your time was very touching XXXX" "I’m particularly moved by Lady Gaga’s support for the Foundation," Guinness told The Telegraph after the event last night. "I like her very much, and it’s lovely to see the nascent beginnings of something that may help other people."

The top lot was a portrait of the famous couture collector, taken by Mario Testino for British Vogue, which raised £133,250; a new world record for a Testino picture. A world record was also set for Alexander McQueen, with an empire-line gown by the designer – along with a portrait of Guinness wearing the dress – sold for £85,250 – far higher than the £15,000-20,000 estimate. A Christian Lacroix world record was also set, as a Spanish-style white lace dress and black matador jacket sold for £16,250.
