Mel Gibson became the father of his eighth child on Friday. His girlfriend, Russian musician Oksana Grigorieva, gave birth to a healthy baby girl; their first baby together.
"This will confirm that Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson welcomed the arrival of a baby girl named Lucia on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles," says Gibson’s rep, Alan Nierob, confirming the event.
Mel Gibson confirmed on Monday night’s airing of NBC’s "Tonight" show with Jay Leno that his girlfriend Grigorieva was pregnant with his child.
Robyn, Gibson’s wife, cited irreconcilable differences in her April 13 divorce petition to end their marriage of 28 years. They together had has seven children, but the couple has been separated for almost three years.
When Jay Leno teased Gibson on having so many children, Gibson said, "I guess I’m Octomel now."
After safely seeing mother and child home Gibson flew to New York to resume shooting Beaver, his new comedy directed by Jodie Foster.
The crew on the set of the movie in White Plains, New York, on Monday sang For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow and Gibson reportedly blushed.
Grigorieva, who is a Russian-born singer and pianist, has a 12-year-old son to former James Bond actor, Timothy Dalton.
