National Portrait Gallery bought the image of late Alexander McQueen and Isabella Blow which was taken in 1996 by David LaChapelle and appeared in Vanity Fair. The image is bought with the financial help of Alexander McQueen and Blow’s long termed friend Daphne Guinness.
At the time when this picture was taken Alexander was just 27 years old and was working at Givenchy, both are wearing creations from Givenchy with blow wearing a Philip Treacy hat.
This image has become iconic. It’s a fantasy image of an extremely creative pair and also taken by a great innovator and in contemporary portrait. This image now lies in the heart of UK in the National Portrait Gallery which is an honor to both the artists. For the ones who loved Vanity Fair this portrait must be very special. The Gallery’s director has said that It’s an iconic image.
